A bee-autiful collaborative project by Silken Favours and My Chelsea hotels.
A friend of Old Tat, designer and owner of Silken Favours, Vicki Murdoch has sunk her claws into a new project with the boutique London hotel, My Chelsea. And surprisingly, it isn’t about cats…
This time, the exciting collaboration is inspired by the bee sanctuary on the roof of hotel. The project combines a love for nature (which we all know Vicki has) and an emphasis on conservation; 50% of the profits will go to the Friends of the Earth’s ‘Bee Cause’.
Bee-autiful and organic hand-drawn illustrations fill a heart-shaped motif on the bespoke cushion, which will be available to buy from My Chelsea from April 2016 and on the Silken Favours website.
The My Hotels Group promote a “warm hospitality that combines style, design and culture”, and are keen advocates of artisan products and local craftsmanship.
A Chelsea Art School graduate, Vicki spoke to us in 2015 about how her bespoke home and accessories brand Silken Favours grew from her love of making personalised gifts for close friends. Silk quickly becoming her material of choice, it not only allowed her colourful “kitsch” designs to stay vibrant but also reflects Vicki’s commitments to building a sustainable business.
“I’m also trying to be an ethical brand, using as much of the waste fabric as possible and making everything in the UK,” she told us.
Those cushions were just meant to bee!
